Iain has over 30 years of experience in legal services and has acted in many of the leading cases relating to the regulation of lawyers in England and Wales.
His experience covers not only disciplinary proceedings but also, business structures, investigations, public law challenges, investment and restructuring.
Iain acts for a number of large law firms in advising them on SRA related issues as well as providing advice to law firm partners. Iain also advised the SRA and its predecessors for over 20 years in relation to all aspect of its work including advocacy in the SDT and the High Court. In 2026, Iain was The Times Law's lawyer of the week for advising the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (Cilex) on its victory in the Court of Appeal. The judges overturned a previous ruling in a case known as Mazur in a judgment that provided clarity on the conduct of litigation as a reserved legal activity under the Legal Services Act 2007.
Iain is General Editor of Cordery on Legal Services, Chair of the City of London Law Society’s Professional Rules and Regulation Committee and a former Chair of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.
